BRIAN JONES: I primarily practice in the area of family law, although I do practice in some other areas as well, primarily concentrating in civil litigation. I've been practicing in Virginia since 1992 at all levels of courts in the state of Virginia, as well as the federal court system.
I represent primarily individuals. There are some small companies, but in family law it's all individuals. It's going to be wives, husbands, sometimes even children in juvenile-related matters.
The client generally sets the goals for us. We tell the client whether or not we think those goals are reasonable and then prioritize them accordingly.
Especially in the area of family law, communication with the client is a major key. I like to have face to face meetings with the client as much as possible. Telephone communication is okay too, but we try to make it a priority to get folks in here to meet with the lawyer as much as possible.
The main priority for me is to ensure that the goals of the client are met to the greatest extent that we can meet them.
